Biden Says He Won’t Deport Illegal Aliens Caught Driving Drunk

During an interview last month, Joe Biden promised to fire ICE agents who pick up illegal immigrants for anything other than a felony.

“You change the culture by saying you are going to get fired,” the former vice president threatened. “You are fired if, in fact, you do that.”

“You only arrest for the purpose of dealing with a felony that’s committed, and I don’t count drunk driving as a felony.”

While it’s true that a first time DUI is a misdemeanor in most states, multiple offenses can lead to a felony conviction. So can a fatal crash, something Edwin Jackson’s family knows all about.

The NFL player and his Uber driver Jeffrey Monroe were both fatally struck by Manuel Orrego-Zavala, an impaired driver with with a long criminal history. Orrego-Zavala was in the country illegally despite having been twice deported to his native Guatemala.

“Mr. Orrego-Zavala re-entered the country illegally for the second time before he put the public safety of Indianapolis at risk and took the lives of two innocent men on Feb. 4, 2018,” U.S. Attorney Josh J. Minkler said in a statement.

“This prosecution represents our office’s commitment to charging aliens that illegally re-enter the country, especially if they are a risk to public safety or there is a criminal history present.”

That Biden wouldn’t take drunk drivers seriously is strange given how he has long claimed his that wife and 13-month-old daughter died because of one. In reality, police determined that Biden’s wife was at fault in the 1972 accident that killed her.

However, it fits perfectly with his party’s approach to border security. Media darling Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is among those calling for the abolition of ICE; at an event in 2018 she said, “All people should be free to be here and in our communities.”

But AOC isn't an outlier: at a Democratic debate in July, every candidate opposed building a border wall and all but two pledged to decriminalize illegal border crossings. Doing so will make it easier for previously deported criminals like Orrego-Zavala to simply walk right back in.

The lack of border controls will also makes it easier for groups like MS-13, the transnational gang known for disemboweling, decapitating, raping, and bludgeoning its victims–both rivals and innocent civilians. Murders are sometimes recorded, with the video sent to a victim’s family. Last year, MS-13 members killed a man in broad daylight on a New York City subway platform:

Not that any of this seems to concern Joe Biden. While speaking at a campaign stop in South Carolina, he was more concerned about providing “a pathway to citizenship, earned citizenship for the eleven million undocumented.” The Democratic front runner then made the odd claim that many illegals "become Americans before a lot of Americans become Americans." The fact that too many Americans become statistics doesn't seem as important to him.
