The Left’s Favorite Racist

In his 2016 film Hillary’s America, Dinesh D’Souza examined how Democrats have used racism to their advantage. Sometimes they’ve been subtle. Other times?

Not so much:

From Woodrow Wilson resegregating the federal government to Lyndon Johnson complaining about “n—ers,” the party has a long history of celebrating bigots, and it continues to this day. Who’s their favorite? Well, that’s a tough question.

After all, there are plenty to choose from.

Louis Farrakhan has damned Jews as “wicked,” “Satanic,” “termites,” and “my enemy” while calling Hitler “a very great man.” Still, that hasn’t stopped Democrats from embracing him:

Women’s March organizers Linda Sarour and Tamika Mallory also embrace Farrakhan. They aren’t fans of whites or Jews either. Sarsour has told supporters not to “humanize” Israelis and has blamed her problems on the Jewish media. Meanwhile, Mallory is alleged to have bullied a Jewish woman and made anti-Semitic remarks at an early Women’s March meeting.

Another possibility is House Democrat Rashida Tlaib. In addition to having written articles for the Nation of Islam, Tlaib subscribed to an Instagram account that compared Jews to rats and blamed them for 9/11:

In terms of sheer star power, it’s tough to beat Rep. Ilhan Omar. You can see this in the way senior Democrats are willing to make excuses for her. When Omar questioned the loyalty of Jewish Americans (something that won her praise from former KKK leader David Duke), House Speaker Nancy Pelosi chalked it up to her English abilities, claiming that she “has a different experience in the use of words.” Omar is a college graduate who has lived in the US for twenty seven years.

But the strongest contender? The Rev. Al Sharpton. Long a fixture in Democratic politics, Sharpton hasn’t just engaged in anti-white and anti-Jewish rhetoric--he’s been linked to physical violence. Some of it has been deadly.

In 1991, anti-Semitic rioters murdered a Jewish man and left others beaten; Sharpton was unsympathetic, announcing, “If the Jews want to get it on, tell them to pin their yarmulkes back and come over to my house.” Four years later, Sharpton organized protests against the Jewish-owned Freddy’s Fashion Mart, describing its proprietors as “white interlopers” and promising to “make that cracker suffer.” The demonstrations stopped when a protester shot the store up and then set it on fire–killing 7 people in the process. None of this kept him from being welcomed into the Obama White House.

And it doesn’t stop him from being an influential figure within the Democratic party today. The Los Angeles Times published a piece last year called, “For Democrats, all paths to the White House run through the House of Sharpton.” It detailed how left-wing politicians “publicly genuflect” before Sharpton, with Beto O’Rourke, Elizabeth Warren, Andrew Yang, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Julian Castro all speaking at an event he organized. Here’s footage of Beto promising reparations:

When Congressman Steve King made positive comments about white nationalism, the response was swift: Republicans forcefully condemned King and stripped him of his committee assignments. For them, the idea of latching onto someone with Sharpton’s track record is absurd. For Democrats?

It’s tradition.
