Biden Says He’ll Ban “Magazines That Have Multiple Bullets In Them”

A few years ago, then Vice President Biden had a message for Americans: “If you want to protect yourself, get a double-barrel shotgun.”

That’s also what he told his wife, and he gave her some curious advice, saying, “Jill, if there’s ever a problem just walk out on the balcony here, walk out, put that double-barreled shotgun and fire two blasts outside the house.”

That blindly firing a weapon could endanger bystanders and lead to felony charges seems not to have occurred to Biden. Neither did the irony of suggesting it during a discussion on gun safety.

It wasn’t the only time that Biden advocated the reckless use of a double-barreled shotgun. And judging from his latest comment, it’s the only firearm he thinks anyone should be able to own.

While speaking to reporters in Iowa, Biden declared having “magazines that hold multiple bullets in them is absolutely mindless.” He went on to say that banning them “is no violation of the Second Amendment.”

Given how virtually all magazines are designed to hold more than one round, a ban on them would render the overwhelming majority of firearms unusable.

Granted, the Democratic front-runner isn’t exactly known for conveying his thoughts in a coherent or accurate manner, so it’s possible that he was referring to what are known to leftists as “high-capacity” magazines and the types of firearms that commonly use them.

After all, Biden has criticized the effectiveness of an AR-15 for self-defense, saying “it’s harder to aim, it’s harder to use, and in fact you don’t need 30 rounds to protect yourself.” The facts say otherwise.

An AR has far less recoil than Biden’s recommended twelve gauge–an important factor for female shooters. Its aluminum receiver and gas impingement operating system reduce weight and allow for fast follow up shots. And contrary to what Biden thinks, those thirty rounds can make the difference between life and death.

Korean-American shopkeepers demonstrated that during the Los Angeles riots. The Korean-American community was specifically targeted, and with no help from the police, store owners picked up semi-automatic rifles to defend themselves. Having the ability to put down a high volume of fire is one of the few ways someone can hold off angry mob. But a riot isn’t the only time that ability is important.

A Milwaukee man used an AR to defend himself against multiple armed attackers. This man in Detroit did the same. And a Houston man used one to stop a drive-by shooting in his neighborhood:

Nor are AR-15s the public safety menace that Democrats pretend it is. Of the 15,129 murders committed in 2017, the FBI reports that only 406 involved rifles of any kind. By comparison, CDC figures show that in the same year, 626 children nine years of age and under drowned. Despite this, Biden isn't talking about banning hot tubs, pools, or plastic buckets.

As with many of Joe Biden's comments, it's not clear what he meant about banning "magazines that have multiple bullets in them." What is clear?

Either way, he's wrong.
