If a group went out and attacked people in the street, most folks would react by condemning them. How did AOC react?
By raising their bail money.
Antifa (short for "anti-fascist"), is a far left movement with a history of violence. Conservative journalist Andy Ngo was beaten by Antifa members in June, causing a brain hemorrhage. He was also doused with milkshakes that Portland police say contained quick drying cement.
Ngo is far from being their only victim. A Portland man was punched in the back of the head for holding an American flag; he had to be hospitalized with a concussion. Two Marines were jumped in Philadelphia by a dozen Antifa members. In Berkeley, an Antifa supporting college professor bashed a man over the head with a bike lock. And the violence doesn't stop there.
This weekend saw Boston's first Straight Pride Parade. Described by organizers as a celebration of "the diverse history, culture, and contributions of the straight community," gay conservative Milo Yiannopoulos served as its grand marshal.
Various Antifa factions spoke out against the event, calling it "fascist" and "white supremacist," despite the involvement of African American and Latino figures. What's more, their opposition wasn't just verbal.
A total of thirty-six protesters were arrested, some for assaulting police officers. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez responded by asking for donations to their bail fund and praising them for "protecting the Boston community."
Rep. Ayanna Pressley chimed in too, saying those arrested had "laid their bodies on the line" to stop "hate." This isn't surprising given how both have treated Antifa attacks in the past.
On July 13, Antifa member Willem Van Spronsen attacked an ICE center in Tacoma. Armed with a rifle and what law enforcement called “incendiary devices,” he managed to set a car on fire before being fatally shot. Van Spronsen prepared a manifesto in which he referred to detention facilities as “concentration camps.”
Following the Tacoma ICE center attack, Ocasio-Cortez, Pressley, and fellow "Squad" member Ilhan Omar were each asked if they would condemn it. Omar and Pressley refused, while AOC pledged to release a statement at a later time.
In another tweet, AOC mocked the male Straight Pride attendees for showing "real incompetence at attracting women" and hoped that they would "grow enough" to support gay events next year.
Hoping that she would grow enough to stop supporting street violence seems pretty pointless.
