Mayor Pete Buttigieg made an appearance on “The View” last week. One of the issues he addressed was late-term abortion, and the Democratic hopeful had something to say.
It just wasn’t true.
“If this is a late-term situation,” Buttigieg insisted, “then by definition, it’s one where the woman was expecting to carry the pregnancy to term” until she received the most “devastating news of her life.”
However, that would come as news to Beth Vial. Last year, Vial did an interview with the Associated Press about having an abortion at six and a half months. The reason? She got pregnant in February but claimed to have not noticed until late July.
Vial opted for a late-term abortion despite the fact that couples seeking to adopt outnumber available infants. What’s more, she isn’t unique.
A 2013 study by the Guttmacher Institute found that the majority of women who have abortions after twenty weeks did so for personal or financial reasons. Dr. Anthony Levatino is a practicing obstetrician-gynecologist who has performed over twelve hundred abortions. In the video below, he explains how they’re done at twenty weeks.
After the amniotic fluid is removed, the abortionist uses a sopher clamp — a grasping instrument with rows of sharp “teeth” — to grasp and pull the baby’s arms and legs, tearing the limbs from the child’s body. The abortionist continues to grasp intestines, spine, heart, lungs, and any other limbs or body parts. The most difficult part of the procedure is usually finding, grasping and crushing the baby’s head. After removing pieces of the child’s skull, the abortionist uses a curette to scrape the uterus and remove the placenta and any remaining parts of the baby.
As you read Dr. Levatino’s description, keep in mind that there’s evidence a baby can feel pain by this point.

While many believe abortion is already banned after twenty weeks, they’re wrong; in fact, some state have no limits at all on when an abortion can take place.
That's why President Trump has called for a national ban on late-term abortion, and it would be great if the next Republican Congress made one a priority. Something else that would be nice?
If Pete Buttigieg stopped lying.
